| Circle is a fascinatingly deep and dark album with Boom Bip providing the backing, Doseone the vocal gymnastics on top. Occasional instrumentals like "Town Criers Walk" (a splendidly funky number) and "The Lantern" (equally so) are left to break up the fascinating and never-ending dialogue directed at you, the listener. Often nasal, occasionally grating, but always engaging, Doseone works wonders with his semi-poetic, semi-rap prose. Doseone's unique rasping lyrics cut through Boom Bip's warm rolling breaks cleanly. As an album, it works terrifically; drawing the listener in (remarkable for the difficult and challenging style) and has a feel of its own. A truly remarkable album, which defies pigeonholing and easy playlisting. Not to be missed. - Absorb |
