MH-247 Thavius Beck - Thru  Thavius Beck returns with his signature blend of mind bending experimental hip-hop and dark synth-driven industrial electronics on his new release Thru. Featuring thirteen tracks of densely layered samples, pulsating synths, and dizzying delay plastered over frantic drum tracks, the album builds on the sound established in his breakout release, Decomposition. In addition to providing vocals on two tracks himself, Thavius collaborates with touring partner and hip-hop's poet laureate, Saul Williams, folk-songstress Mia Doi Todd, Los Angeles staple 2Mex, and up-and-coming MC Nocando on individual tracks. | The curse of the sophomore slump has surely not affected Thavus Beck. While spitting his own rhymes on two of the tracks, Thru is a mostly sprawling instrumental trip-hop compendium that lurks through the darker realm of drum & bass, IDM, and foreboding samples with such an eclectic deliverance exhibiting Beck's status as a true renaissance man. - Urb |
