| With mainstream hip-hop declared dead by Nas and the underground scene taking a nap, it's nice to see at least one forward looking hip-hop record from a new talent. The awkwardly named K-the-I??? comes off like a heartbroken Dalek, but instead of apocalyptic visions of earth we're served sad-sack love stories. The music most resembles Mush label-mate Daedelus and his frenetic brand of sample-happy jazzery, but with a darker edge comparable to Company Flow-era El-P. K-the-i??? arrives at the table much hungrier than his peers and manages to eat up the competition, not that there was much to begin with. - Color |
