| An impressive collection of instrumental, electronically-enhanced post-rock from Arizona-based brothers Michael and Jared Bell, Love Your Abuser is a multi-faceted beast of a record. Starting with the melodic laptop-shaped introduction, ‘Rest Easy/Age Kindly’ the album gets off to a rather grand, epic start, followed up by the title track, a fuzzy collage of distorted drums, Mum-style harmonium and sweetly jangling percussion. The maxed-out beats and Sufjan-style brass section on ‘Astrology Days’ make for a potent cocktail, and the emotive – if slightly ominous – glockenspiel-enhanced ‘Truth Skull’ sounds akin to Mogwai, albeit with a hip hop element. Impressive stuff. - Boomkat |
