Their debut full-length release, Pigments Drift Down To The Brook, with it's expansive, chamber-music approach to song structure and production, hints at modern risk-takers Architecture In Helsinki and The Arcade Fire. Alternating between sweet and majestic, the combination of male and female vocals, sung both in Japanese accented English, is an aural wonder. Keyboards and wind instruments lay on top of a bed of dream-rock guitar, bass, and drums, creating moments of 60’s guitar pop, Neu inspired repetition, and modern electronics, all within the same expansive track. Pigments Drift Down To The Brook marks 4 Bonjour's Parties as a band that deserves close attention. |

| 4 Bonjour’s Parties’ Great Wall of Sound stretches from Phil Spector’s Los Angeles to their native Japan. This seven-piece, which sounds at times like a full orchestra, presents a collage of new and previously released material that features much interplay between an accordion, trumpet, sampler, Theremin, and glockenspiel. “Ruins” drifts into meditations that would be fitting of a Fripp and Eno collaboration (with its repetitious sound beds), and “Il Cortile Grigio” takes the Beach Boys’ Smile on a trip to Kyoto. As far out as they go, the collective never fails to deliver some hard indie rock that offers a great balance to its softer melodies. - XLR8R |
