| Marc Bianchi, the one-man band known as Her Space Holiday (HSH), celebrated the release of his latest albums XOXO Panda and the New Kid Revival on Tuesday, Oct. 7. HSH has been around for about a decade, but delivers the masterpiece of his career with XOXO Panda and the New Kid Revival. This album packs a truly organic sound favored by listeners of the alternative persuasion, but can be enjoyed by anyone who favors foot-tapping kept in perfect time. The album’s five-star qualities are manifested in its deep, uplifting lyrical content accompanied by tambourine and handclaps that make you want to dance wildly around the room throughout all 14 tracks. The album embodies a sound similar to The American Analog Set and Bright Eyes, but has a deep storyline all its own, with lyrics about everything from playing music to doing drugs. “If time is measured in memories, don’t set your clock to misery,” belts Bianchi on track four, “The Year In Review.” Another likeable aspect of this album is each track is different from its predecessor and employs a new selection of instruments, taking the album in an unexpected direction. Also, the accompanying album art is creatively obscure, done by Bianchi himself. Formerly relying on synthesizer and computer-generated blips and beeps, HSH adopts a banjo and keyboard and turns in an indie-folk direction on the new album. XOXO Panda and the New Kid Revival is absolutely worth purchasing, either digitally or otherwise, because it is such a diversion from Her Space Holiday’s older works, and is a powerful new addition to the HSH collection. - Jack Central |
