| It must have been refreshing for Marc Bianchi--the San Francisco native behind electro indie pop outfit Her Space Holiday--to let the dust gather on those throbbing beats and bubbly synths during the lengthily titled XOXO, Panda And The New Kid Revival. With his unassuming voice, Bianchi leads an arsenal of acoustic instruments (mandolins, banjos, kazoos, what have you) and sets them to the task of scoring the scenery of swampland tent revivals, dilapidated industrial towns and empty six-pack littered porches. Mixed at Tiny Telephone, San Francisco's much adored all analog studio, XOXO seems to split the difference between the "say-what?" campfire intoxication so endearing on old Modest Mouse records, and the rainy-day indoor play pop of Beulah. The results rest squarely this side of pretentious. - Synthesis |
