A collective of talented New York artists join together to create a project that will bode well with acid jazz heads. My favorite track off the EP, "Feed Your Soul" starts the proceedings. It's a beautifully live moody track that chugs along building initially with the killer voice of Petra Phillipson. As her vocal moves through the bass and drums, a violin pierces through the soundscape, slowly playing its atoning melodies. "Spoon Song" feels like an African hip-hop track with its tribal chanting, flutes and more happy, jump up vibe. "Don't Panic" is on the minimal tip featuring nice electronic sounds and a crisp break. Flipside is "Samsara" where hip-hop travels to the Middle East, a flute meanders around a DMX-sounding break, all the while scratching weaves in and out the mix. - XLR8R |
