In what has to be the most ironic of names, Sleeper is anything but. Full-fledged electronics that avoid all of the trappings of what we hate when we hate on electronic music: cold, lifeless and regimented is supplanted with warm, organic and lively. Check out the track Condition or Effect from the upcoming album Behind Every Mask. It seethes its way through from beginning to end, lurching through a grainy, rhythmic call to arms. The album will be released on February 17th, 2009. The soundbite that starts the song says it all. "I think the drum machine was one of the worst inventions of the twentieth century," in a forecasting of the Sleeper manifesto. Instead of relying on pre-formulated tracks and canned sounds, he innovates instruments and sounds of his own," reads the description from his label. - Spacelab |
