| Jel is the production dynamo behind Anticon's varied projects like Deep Puddle Dynamics, Themselves and others. He gets to indulge himself with a fistful of instrumentals that need no narration. The 10 Seconds title refers to the amount of sample storage space in the SP-1200: the original, pre-Pro Tools beat architect of early hip-hop classics. Jel's beats are lovingly chopped and diced, recalling the stuttered and dirty production values of such SP-1200 legends like Mantronix, DJ Muggs and Large Professor. Jel prefers a more low-key approach, recreating the atmosphere of an Amsterdam hash bar more than a packed Manhattan nightclub. With a smattering of sounds and rhythmic canvasses to rhyme over, smoke to or get some deep thinking done, Jel proves himself a growing virtuoso on the beatbox. - Pulse |
