| With the twin control mechanisms of Mush and Leaf in place, you just know this is going to be a special record. And indeed it is; Mark Mitchell is a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from Adelaide whose songs display as much of an understanding of electronic music as they do of Nick Drake et al. This a warm, shuffling album bereft of cliche and posture. Rather than functioning simply as an attempt to update an old theme, the chirps and bleeps speak because they sound right; this is a singer songwriter record where voice is a layer of the collage rather than the centrifugal force. Personally speaking, the great success of this record for me is that it makes it feel like winter's gone and spring is here. - Grand Slam |
