MH-219 Villain Accelerate - Maid Of Gold Coming off a string of well received productions including work for Sage Francis' Personal Journals, his instrumental classic, Duration, his latest Vertical Form LP, Antagonist Survival Kit as well as a multi-record deal with Ninja Tune, Montreal transplant Sixtoo joins forces with his old production mate Stigg of the Dump to form the group Villain Accelerate. Their debut, Maid of Gold, may be the most accomplished instrumental release in the Mush catalog. A sonic barrage of breakneck drums, dark samples, pulsing bass, and unsettling electronics, it is the work of a hip-hop production team with the engineering chops of the most sonically skilled drum and bass producer. Killer new project from Mush, Sixtoo and Stigg of the Dump - a serious contender for instrumental hip-hop album of the year. Of course you don't need any introduction to the man Sixtoo but Stigg, last heard producing the awesome Still Alive at the Veglia Lounge ten-inch on Endemik in 2002, offering darkcore hip-hop beauty for Sixtoo and Buck 65 to confess all over. This album is sixteen tracks deep, taking in deep blue El-P'esque evocations, electronica/post rock pulses/melodics with added dope crisp beats. Several tracks are heightened by turntable skills from P-Love (also on lush Rhodes), other instrumental accompaniment comes from the bass and guitar - beautiful and deeply emotional.
