| I discovered Bibio through a series of backwater internet links after a chance mention on Bleep a couple of years ago. I do believe the flare that lit up my eyes was a wee endorsement in the form of a comment from one half of the Boards of Canada duo. His real name is Stephen Wilkinson and he makes music that a Polaroid from 1982 would make if it could. The sounds are a Velcro mixture of lo-fi acoustic guitar loops and crackly synth’s or field recordings that layer up together gently. Occasionally he drops a beautiful folky vocal over his track that winds up round the music like ivy. It’s all so infectiously emotive and nostalgic that I would never be able to do it justice here. Every track evokes images of mossy Welsh forests, sand-coloured fields in late summer, VHS tapes and maydays. Stunning if like this sort of thing. Which I do. A lot. - Colourschool |
