| As suggested by the name and title, this Bay Area duo isn't turning out many club tracks. Instead, producers Kingston and Young God offer a dense, sprawling double album that's often grim, dark, and challenging. The first disc is instrumental, while the second features emcees like Guru, Pep Love, and Mikah 9. The instrumentals prove superior; dense compositions blending live instrumentation with break beats, scratches, samples and both live and sampled voices. It's stunning and, while some of this can be a bit greuling, those stunning moments are worth it. - Mean Street |
