An all at once haunting and exotically rich spectacle that’s timeless, exquisite and arresting - Losing Today / Postal Service producer Dntel is the perfect choice for the remix here, as he adds his tight, poppy style to "Feet Upon The Sand." Devendra Banhart's "La Semilla" sounds like a lush vocal number you'd find in the Greg Caz's crate, while "Long Lost" is a female vocal number straight out of a Wes Anderson flick. - Turntable Lab |

Name of the band alone had us curiously alerted with ears on hopeful stand by and ready to part hard earned cash in exchange for. Disappointed we were not. In truth this will knock you sideways and back again. The excellently named Mystic Chords of Memory feature ex members of the Beachwood Sparks (whose debut album from a few years back still gets a regular dusting down round these parts) and the Aislers Set and are here to be found collaborating with psychedelic head tripper Nobody AKA Elvin Estela. One album already in the can and set for release shortly entitled Tree Colored See this delectable two track single serves as a sumptuously taster for what's to come. "Broaden A New Sound" is reminiscent in terms of feel and texture to the aforementioned Beachwood Sparks debut where the compositions where by and large fluffily frail shimmer like west coast imbued pop nuggets decoded with a silken, uncluttered almost naive demeanour and betraying an almost off kilter like daydream effect that was somehow lost on the latter elaborately produced outings. By going one step backwards to pick up the trail Gunst in effect takes two steps forward in turn cultivating what could perhaps be the haziest and most reclining slice of soft psychedelia you'll probably have the fortune to trip over this summer. Quite simply breathtaking stuff. Flip side features the sultry Devendra Banhart cover of "The Seed" which features on the aforementioned Tree Colored See full length. A treat it has to be said, acoustically drawn and sung in Spanish it provides for an all at once haunting and exotically rich spectacle that's timeless, exquisite and arresting. - Losing Today |
