MH-006 Neutrino - Quest Neutrino is the Tokyo based jazzy groove duo of Atsuhiro Murakami and DJ Kuro. Their Mush debut, Quest showcases the phat and minimal sound influenced by Shadow, Krush, and Vadim. The four track EP collects an assortment of tripped out hip-hop beats, melancholy piano chords, and floating vocal samples to create a groove that is both stark and fluid. The title track's infectious vocal sample burrs deep into the brain on first listen. "I Think Both Understood," with its mesmerizing female vocal hook, has been licensed for the Rhythmlove compilation Turntables on the Hudson Vol. 1. Quest is instrumental hip-hop in its most natural, unforced state.

Great blunted beats textured with a nice variety of sounds. Going from spacey to jazzy to just plain weird, but in a good way. Japanese duo Atsuhiro Murakami and DJ Kuro show that there are others in the Japanese scene than DJ Krush. The four tracks presented are all very good, with the standout being "I Think Both Understood" which essentially says it all after just one listen. Nice to see Japan pushing their own sound. - BPM
