| Originally distributed purely on hand-made cassettes, and recorded with minimum equipment through the winter of 1998 into the spring of 1999, it was these fifty-five thunderous skits from nosdam which first drew him to the attention of cLOUDDEAD compadres Doseone and why?, and ultimately to the influential Mush label. These unassuming instrumentals, unencumbered by track titles and most weighing in at under a minute in length, set the tone for a whole new age where hip-hop rose above its own arrested development by way of freethinking Californian imprints Mush and Anticon. Though without much in the way of lyrical narrative, the battle of both form and function keeps things tense - a barrage of bare sketches forged from a street knowledge and sense of the theatrical which inevitably holds court to more ideas than many fully formed albums from lesser rap Draculas. - All Music Guide |
