MH-218 Daedelus - Rethinking The Weather  After a string of successes as a producer of eccentric electronica for well respected labels Plug Research and Eastern Developments, Daedelus hooked up with MCs Busdriver and Radioinactive for the Mush release, The Weather. Using the instrumentals from that album as a base, Daedelus has chopped, relayered, remixed, twisted, and given life to a new instrumental project dubbed Rethinking The Weather. Fans of the original should take note that this is not your typical hip-hop instrumental album, where the music simply is mixed-down without the vocals. Although the original was used as a starting point, the end result is something entirely unique and a glimpse into the mind of a one-of-a-kind artist. |

| The term IDM is a tricky one indeed. This acronym that stands for Intelligent Dance Music (an oxymoron, in its own right) has been used to describe everything from the frenetic drills and clicks of Aphex Twin to the soothing sounds of Boards of Canada. With that in mind, Daedelus' latest full-length (a reworking of The Weather, released in February) falls cozily somewhere in the middle, with the addition of an abstract hip-hop influence. The drum loops and melodies are smooth and engaging; the cartoonish samples and instrumentation that are brought in as backup sound appropriate, and provide a great deal of variety. This is creative, charming stuff worth seeking out. - Synthesis |
