| Listening to iD and Sleeper's "Displacement" is a lot like flipping through the roughened pages of some abstract, urban scrap book. It's full of black & white grainy captures of alley ways, dirty buildings, anonymous figures and from time-to-time the stillness begins moving. The scenes are raw, honest and you can't turn away. iD's lyrics are specific but general, personal and impersonal. They speak about life. Sleeper's beats and sounds are lo-fi, grimy, deep and assertive, stopping short of being gloomy. iD And Sleeper's "Displacement" is abstract hip-hop made tangible and you just can't take it all in with a single head-nodding pass. Let it soak in, one story after another, and you'll get something different every time. - Properly Chilled |
