| Riz Maslen escaped from Ninja Tune's Ntone imprint a good while before conceiving this record, and the switch to free-wheeling LA label Mush seems to have done her some good. White Rabbits has a loose, dreamy feel that hearkens back to some of her earlier releases, but adds a fuzzy dose of guitars new to her work. Still, the looming ambiance of "Odity Round-a-Heights" and creaking, clicking echoes of "Small Moves" retain Maslen's trademark fluid composition and nonlinear song writing. A delicacy of detail is matched by assured instrumentation and though White Rabbits has its fair share of psychedelia, there is nothing retro or backwards-looking about it. Instead, we're treated to a parade of newfound sounds flashed on the mind's ear. - BPM |
