| Bibio (aka Stephen Wilkinson) creates easy listening as a Zen koan: delicate, ambient compositions that breeze by inoffensively and then quickly evaporate into the ether. The titles suggest an attempt to electronically mirror nature with words like poplar, cherry blossom and lakeside cropping up. But it's easier to imagine fi duplicating the state of awe one feels in quiet community with natural beauty, those gorgeous moments of thought extinction brought on by feeling like a pin prick in the cosmos. Though the songs have mildly evocative associations, they also pass by without beat anchors, wispy, directionless diversions that erupt and recede almost before they register. - Rockpile |
