| For this new release, Her Space Holiday - aka one man band Marc Bianchi - have embarked upon something of a departure from previous releases, completely abandoning the computer, and therefore the so-called 'indie-tronic' sound, that marked earlier HSH albums. The result is a folky, country-ish acoustic album that at times recalls former touring mate Bright Eyes and the quieter moments of alt-country pioneers Wilco. Pleasingly ramshackle and unpolished, the likes of "The New Kid Revival," "Sleepy Tigers" and "No More Good Ideas" are joyous slices of home-hewn pop, all handclaps and shakers, topped off by Bianchi's exuberant delivery, while "The Boys And Girls" is coloured by understated banjo and soft "ba-ba-ba" vocals. As re-inventions go, this one's a success. - Alternative Ulster |
