| The success of Architecture in Helsinki must certainly mean that Australia's other pop-orientated artists will soon be garnering more attention, and with a sophomore effort like this, Clue To Kalo are definitely holstering a "check these guys out" label. The album is able to maintain their distinctive sound of wistful folk-electronic-pop that is initiated during the short opening track and floats peacefully throughout the 42 minutes, sometimes picking up its pace like a racing heart in "Come To Mean A Natural Law" or slowing it to a drowsy ballad for closer "The Older The Young." Never a dull moment but never a terribly exciting one either, what it lacks in dynamics it makes up for in unmistakable beauty. Walls of marshmallow harmonies constantly flood your senses along with playful electronic tid-bits and Mitchell's relentlessly lo-fi voice, which orientates itself towards the overall song texture rather than as a centerpiece. And speaking of centerpiece, that honor goes to "Your Palsy To Protect You" which has a distinctive Four Tet influence running through its veins. - The Brag Magazine |
