| While some stuff on LA hip-hop label Mush (pronounced Muhhsh although my East Coast friends are starting the Mooosh movement) is a little avant and harder to grasp, Labtekwon offers that straight-up playful hip-hop flavor reminiscent of De La Soul (wordplay), Digable Planets (jazzy grooves) and Gangstarr (husky flow). Labtekwon isn't breaking any new ground with Song of the Sovereign, but his flow is familiar in a good way and his songs are straight-up fun and at times silly. "My Crew" is a good little introduction to the party vibe of Labtekwon's style, and on "CSD" you get a great taste of his word play and lyrical abilities. This is some pretty good shit, what else y'all got? - 'Sup |
