| With the mic on his side and a Saul Williams-like fire in his mind and heart, Labtekwon spits out abstractions under the guise of murky, jazz-funk beats. It's no big secret as to why underground hip-hop is underground. Those flossing their P. Diddy and Mystikal records probably couldn't handle the verbal intellect and alternative rhythms provided by cats like Labtekwon and his producer-in-arms Professor Max Mineblo. The mic-checka takes street poetry and combines it with a variety of moods ranging from the Black Sheep-esque "CSD" which even pokes a little fun at Heavy D's tired 90's hit "Now that We Found Love." Song of the Sovereign is an updated throwback to the early 90's era where more qualified acts like Das Efx, Lords of the Underground and Leaders of the New School reigned supreme. This is your futuristic history lesson. Listen up. - Blue Divide |
