| Villain Accelerate is the combined effort of Sixtoo and Stigg of the Dump. The theme of the disc is melancholic instrumental hip hop. Fat DJ Shadow type beats bounce through the mix as strings and melodies get warped and bent into interesting pieces. "Duppies" feels like a tougher version of Boards of Canada’s latest work. "Table of Context" leans towards Meat Beat Manifesto reworked by Rjd2. They might get abstract and veer over into experimental with tracks like "Rookie Card" or "Worried.Look", but Villain Accelerate never get boring. Wisely keeping the songs short and to the point, the whole album blends elements throughout to keep a common theme and feel to the listening experience. Very heady stuff and when I mean heady I mean nodding and bouncing. The b-boys in the hood will look with jealous eyes as you come rolling down the street. Yell out “Mad beats by my boys Villain Accelerate” or namedrop them at the next staff meeting and watch your boss monitor the rest of your emails for the day. - Properly Chilled |
