| Hip-hop beat-smiths Sixtoo and Stigg of the Dump have joined forces to form Villain Accelerate, and have recently released this collection of dark, hip-hop oriented instrumental tracks. Each of these tunes begins similarly, with the slow, building introduction of some main element of the song, which then either develops itself into something bigger or is carefully built upon to create a deep soundscape. None of this record's sixteen tracks are grandly orchestral or overproduced, however; these songs' sonic girth comes from layers of precisely placed elements. From near-constant drum loops, soft and jazzy key strokes and ethereal hums to intermittent blips and whirs and a largely raw approach to beats, not only is this music full of punctuating and dynamic elements, but it also has a subtlety and personality that makes it easy to absorb and rhythmically appealing. - Synthesis |
