| The mellower tracks on Lymbyc Systym's second proper album sound like they were meant to be experienced in the photo on the back of the Arizona brotherly duo's album cover, looking out the window on the freshly fallen snow as haunting post-rock instrumentals seep into your soul. Of course, the drums don't seep or haunt so much as swagger, like a cross between Led Zeppelin's John Bonham and Don Caballero's Damon Che - particularly on the first track, "Trichromatic." But there's a melancholy majesty to most of the songs, recalling Sigur Rós at times (see the gorgeous "Interiors" or richly textured "Bedroom Anthem") as the Bell brothers felsh out layers of keyboards and drums with everything from strings and horns to glockenspiel and banjo. - AP |
