| First off (his rocker), Aesop is on some weird shit. "I'm Bilbo Baggins with stilts tipping the Petri dish / Beats fish on the shores with a feast of wits / Eats the corpse." On "Commencement at the Obedience Academy," he flows his lyrics over funk guitar and Blade Runner era Vangelis. At times, Float moves like a tape book written for reading minds in panicked crowds. On "Attention Span," Cannibal Ox's Vastaire lends a foot in your ass: "If the mic had ass cheeks / The sticker in my hand would say Priority Seating." "Basic Cable" is reminiscent of a Christian camp song about blowing up one's TV, like something out of sci-fi writer Harlan Ellison's The Glass Teat, with Aesop pronouncing: "I want to see the five day forecast fourteen days in advance / So I can give my two weeks notice every time the sun dance." On "Fascination" he quotes poodle rockers Poison's Every Rose Has Its Thorns: "If I had an anchor I would lay it in the dirt / And mark the day the earth stood still / While I complete my search." - The Wire |
