| Saturating practically every one of the seventy minutes of Float with emcee mastery, bombardment is the game here. With stark beats rarely more than pure backdrop, there's no escape. He gets off some great riffs, like his embodiment of an unhelpful, berating Bob Villa type in "How to Be a Carpenter" and his performance of both sides of a conversation about what to do with free time in "Oxygen." Both of these tracks, and much of the rest of the album seem to suggest that Aesop is obsessed with the theme of physical depletion, which, give that he's currently balancing a hip-hop career and a day job in Manhattan, lends the disc some weight. - CMJ |
