| The smartest sound on the block this week may be one part out-there Captain Beefheart to two parts underground hip-hop but it's all the better for such an unsubtle mix. Producer Boom Bip and cLOUDDEAD lyricist Doseone's debut album is a mighty wash of sounds and sources which takes its cues from extremely tangential hip-hop interchanges, flickering sonic interference, free jazz scats and oddly paranormal drones. If this sounds a tad po-faced, we apologize for misleading you and point instead towards a track like "The Lantern" or "'Art Saved My Life' -71" with kooky drama and barmy fun at the heart of the matter. A welcome distraction from careerist electronic tykes, Circle is naturally a sound without borders. - Irish Times |
