| Circle makes Kool Keith sound like Phil Collins. Is this insane hip-hop a success? Hell, yes. Here's unhinged stream-of-conscious poetry courtesy of Doseone periodically breaking down in random metaphysical jewels on the lines of "The only war that matters is the war against the imagination" set against beats culled from the last twenty years of hip-hop and from every decade of recorded sound, smashed together by avant-garde production hero Boom Bip: music-boxes and songbirds by the way of the Last Poets and electro. It can be a genuinely shocking listen and it'll make no sense the first time you hear it. By the third spin, you'll be head nodding, anticipating every change of tempo in the rhyming and every surreal ejaculation. Ambitious, off the wall, and impossible to justice in a review. - Straight No Chaser |
