| It's in hip-hop's ballpark, sure, but the first release from this mysterious West Coast dream team shows little concern for field boundaries. For Circle hits hard and avant-garde, a collage of beats, lyrics and samples that makes disorientation its true goal. DJ Boom Bip and lyricist Doseone yet they make DJ Shadow's last look as progressive as a penny-farthing. The incredible distortions of "Town Crier's Walk" or the psychic aggro of "Slight" see Boom Bip playing fast and mentally loose underneath Doseone's mind-spatter lyrics. Ignore the foundation-course pretension and let them take your inner ear outer there. - NME |
