| With many listeners only now getting to the bottom of their epic eponymous debut, nigh on three years after its initial release, the advent of a second cLOUDDEAD album could hardly be more timely. And from the moment the woozy refrain at the heart of the opening number turns out to be "Elvis, what happened?," it's clear Ten is not going to disappoint. The basic blend of found voices, disembodied throbbing sounds, aphoristic non-sequiturs ("Youngsters today are not prepared to buy plants or collect stamps / There is no search party for a star gone dim") and addictive little snags of melody is very much as before. But the flow is smoother, and the whole thing has a more compressed, accessible feel, without promising the essential psychedelic madness at its heart. - Mojo |
