| cLOUDDEAD, everyone's favourite post-hop Dadaists, strike back on Mush with a new album called Ten. Perhaps the most useful, albeit utterly obvious, thing I can say about this album is that you will enjoy it if you are a cLOUDEAD fan. But there are perhaps other angles from which to appreciate it. My buddy, for example, thought that the whole thing was justified because the last thirty seconds powerfully reminded him of the sound of the vacuum cleaner which he used to sleep beside as a child. I have been rather cursorily dismissive of Doseone in the past, but there is no doubt that he has a lot of talent, and knocks pretty much every emcee on the planet out of the ring when it comes to unfettered creative vision. Partners odd nosdam and why? are similarly skilled in their craft, and I have a lot of respect for their ability to transcend genre and taste in their mission to forge exactly what they want out of modern music. Certainly worth getting if you like your music challenging, and possibly the only contemporary hip-hop band that people will still listen to thirty years hence. - Undercover |
