| If the second album by the core members of Oakland's Anticon collective doesn't directly address the "Are they or aren't they hip-hop?" question that continues to dog them, it at least clarifies why it keeps coming up: because they delight in applying the precepts of hip-hop - sonic fragmentation, sampling and the spoken-word - to create something that bears virtually no resemblance to hip-hop. It's like taking a box of old car parts and building a swing set. - Eye Weekly |
