| It's no coincidence that Fat Jon the Ample Soul Physician's album cover recalls Miles Davis' Bitches Brew. With a jazz soul and a hip-hop body, Wave Motion takes its time in its explorations. Never moving far from the groove pocket, it has a Digable Planets feel taken down a few notches. Even though each cut leaves out the vocals and flows, the tracks don't feel sluggish or repetitive. Instead, they all move with a slow saunter, shaking a little funk here and some muffled horns there. In most hands, instrumental hip-hop would be DOA. This doctor performs wonders - he makes it sound as alive as any vocal hip-hop out there. - Relix |
