| Perhaps the most astute jazzman on the Mush imprint, by no stretch of the imagination, Fat Jon must have his doctorate in blues notes. Through Wave Motion, he does to instrumental hip-hop what Miles Davis did to jazz with Birth of the Cool. For sure, there have been some accomplished contenders in the running for best marriage between these musical forms, but not since Dj Cam's arrival has the fidelity been so forthcoming. "For Stress" is a downbeat set-wrecker, resplendent with its soulful brass and woodwind combo. Piling the beats on thick atop a sensual thread, "Wet Secrets" whets the appetite, among other things. - XLR8R |
