| After producing and remixing tracks for an A-list of experimental hip-hop outfits under various pseudonyms (Themselves, Deep Puddle Dynamics, Subtle), the Chicago-born hip-hop producer Jel releases his debut album. As much homage as it is an album, 10 Seconds pays its respects to that cornerstone of hip-hop production, the E-Mu SP-1200. Produced entirely within the limitations of its ten second, 12-bit sampling capacity, Jel's debut effort shows a dirty progression of the sound pioneered by the likes of DJ Shadow, DJ Krush and DJ Food. - Mixer |
