| Haunting atonal melodies, gritty guitar feeds rhythmic scratches all merge into a diverse melange on Jel's full-length, 10 Seconds. Jel pushes his SP-1200 to the outer realms of the possible, infusing deep basslines with funk, rock and instrumental samples that work the album into a satisfying, multi-faceted shape. While much of the album is akin to the eeriness that ripples through much of Dj Krush's hypnotic tracks, Jel also drops in some surprise samples that lighten up the dark foundation. The SP molds the distinctive sounds of a range of producers - from the Rza to Marley Marl - and infuses Jel's latest release with an ominous and seductive feel. - Boston's Weekly Dig |
