| This record may be coming out on Mush, but Jel is Anticon through and through. He's a beatmaker though, so don't be expecting non-rhyming pretentious monologues on this record. Rather, the sleeve notes about the glories of the SP-1200 sampler should intimate what you can expect - grime and dirt. "11. Multi Pitch" is a great start - after a minute and a half of pleasant meanderings Jel constructs a pattern which sounds like "Passin' Me By" on steroids. Wicked way to start the album. By and large, a characteristic of Jel's beats are his drums - raw and well-programmed. Amidst the high-profile releases from the likes of legends like Pete Rock and Marley Marl, this instrumental release might be overshadowed; but don't get it twisted - Jel may be Anticon, but he knows about the good ol' boom bap. - Hip-Hop Music UK |
