| This is the kind of album that inspires inverse snobbery in many white rap reviewers (rap reviewers that are white, that is - not reviewers of white rap). Not me though, I'm still naive and idealistic enough to appreciate the playful seriousness of an artist like Busdriver. Irreverence has always been a big part of hip-hop, from Soulsonic Force to Digital Underground to Ultramagnetic MCs, and while this element is currently its commercial rebirth in the crunkzone of Li'l Jon et al. It's refreshing to know others are augmenting their sense of fun with hardcore intellect. Fear of a Black Tangent may not be the future of hip-hop, but Busdriver is beyond such petty temporal concerns. He is the master of his own psychedelic pocket universe, and normal rules do not apply. - Rock Sound |
