| Los Angeles MC Regan Farquhar, aka Busdriver, has a knack for writing wordy rhymes that spew forth like plumes of volcanic ash that is matched only by his self deprecation. "I'm just the dull Busdriver," Farquhar spits on "Avantcore" before admitting "I never expected to win big" on "Cool Band Buzz." With his nasal delivery and all-over-the-board production (the album sports the work of no less than five producers, including Danger Mouse, Daedelus and Thavius Beck), Farquhar might be right about not making the big time. But whether he's busting on edgy corporate rappers, deconstructing why people hate him or giving props to Johnny Cash, Fear of a Black Tangent proves that Busdriver is never dull. - Chicago Tribune |
