| This is an amazing LP, coming from the same places as Danger Mouse and The Avalanches where hip-hop is cut to shreds and just about anything can get thrown in the mix. The genius is that it all sticks. So you get revving motors, great chunks of sampled lounge, dry-as-a-bone emcees (MF Doom, Sci and Mike Ladd) regulation beats, 1940's black and white movie soundtracks, clacking machine noises and monstrous low-end bass. It moves like a mixtape, explosions and effects giving way to golden harp, collisions of unexpected sound, sweet harmony (form all that lounge gear) and sharp, smart rhymes. From soft, psychedelic ballads to mad-as-a-fish cut-ups. Daedelus runs the gaunt of possibility and comes out shining like vintage De La Soul and the best modern alt.production. A real winner! - DMC |
