| Electronica act Daedelus creates postmodern musical collage assortments that combine a plethora of styles: hip-hop, euro pop, glitch, techno, and IDM. Several guests contribute to the varied sonic melange. Mike Ladd raps on "Welcome Home" a warmly arranged song on which Prefuse 73 also provides production assistance. MF Doom raps with even greater abandon on "Impending Doom." "Now & Sleep" features Laura Darling honeyed voice valiantly crooning a lullaby, set against a misanthropically melancholy glitch-filled soundscape. The pieces on which Daedelus flies solo (yes, a pun for the mythologically-inclined) are swell as well. "Just Briefly" creates a motoric, industrial sounding instrumental landscape. "The Crippled Hand" is a spacey slice of chill out. "The Trains Are Now So Clean" is an IDM dance hall miniature begging for expansion. Daedelus' main schtick is creating a swirl of contrasting sound worlds. It's easy to do this and end up being a dabbler, but Exquiste Corpse manages to juggle all of the elements and create some fascinating music in the process. - Copper Press |
