| Daedelus takes his name from an Ancient Greek and dresses like an Edwardian. Whether this attention-seeking aspect is expected to gather more press attention is left to speculation but is certainly well hooked up in the hip-hop community. With traditional licks from MF Doom and Sci from Scienz of Life, to poetic Mike Ladd and Cyne to the experimental influence of Prefuse 73. Daedelus has certainly got a punch to the pack. Exquiste Corpse is hard to garner a grasp on. Layers of sound, samples, childlike arrangements from the 30s and 40s jockey for space as the vocals wash in and out like impetuous waves. It is certainly a challenging record, however, it shines with the depth expectant of an artist who has already recorded on Mush, Plug Research, Hefty, Tigerbeat6 and Eastern Developments. Lush and cinematic in one instance whilst surreal and chopped up the nest this is a dense album with many confusing but often intriguing textures. - Clash |
