| This CD is a collection of ten-inch tracks recorded throughout the span of two years. The songs are all lengthy (six-seven minutes) and are created using a montage of standard issue mics, samplers and eight-track recorders. The sound is an ethereal landscape, dotted with dope beats and muted rhymes. The lyrics are masterful ("Are you scared the album will end before the doorbell rings and you'll be left to great your guests with a tied tongue?" and "This is a no choking zone / It's McDonalds versus a handful of dry sea monkeys awaiting the wet sponge") and the fact that they're delivered by a voice (or voices) that sound like the lead singer of Cypress Hill doesn't detract from the effect at all; because, with cLOUDDEAD, the lyrics are not the focal point. The record is a whole - the songs are part of that whole picture - the music makes up each picture‚ the vocals blend into the music so well that you barely take note. - Spank |
