| Edging hip-hop closer to the edges of its possibility, cLOUDDEAD are the latest murky beat-heads to force the boom-bap into a twisted, nasty place beyond simple headnod grooves. Though it doesn't sound like it, cLOUDDEAD are the hip-hop equivalent to free jazz, to psychedelia, burning the rulebook with untrammeled, untutored genius. Sing-song rhymes that sound like they're wafting from some railroad somewhere in the past, shuffling beats and blasted melodies like tr*p-h*p, if it ever had a point beyond feeding your dusted dreams - Far out is a funky place to be. The next (il)logical step after Anti-Pop Consortium and Anticon. - Sleaze Nation |
