| Some dreams remain long after their initial spell has been cast. This debut album by 23-year-old Australian Mark Mitchell aka Clue to Kalo - is one such brilliantly unshakeable apparition. A powerbook poet with his head firmly buried in the clouds rather than some technical manual, Mitchell's enchanting minor melodies are cast across ever-shifting, structureless sands. Marvelously misplaced, Come Here When You Sleepwalk exists in a bizarre organic bubble, unaffected by passing trends and sonic straightjackets. Like Badly Drawn Boy overdosing on Boards of Canada, Clue to Kalo drifts along upon Mitchell's lovelorn vocal murmurs, around which, countless nervously restless noises loosely string themselves. Also reminiscent of the dusty downtempos of Mum and Dntel, these abstract pop tunes seem to have been shredded apart in some musical blender, upon which they've reconstructed themselves into fantastically wayward shapes. The sound-track for dreamily misspent summer days, beamed into our open arms gratefully early. Release of the month. - The Crack |
